Earlier this week, FX officially ordered Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s “The Strain” to series. But along with that announcement came word that John Hurt’s character, Professor Abraham Setrakian would be recast.
According to
Deadline, Hurt’s replacement is veteran actor David Bradley, star of the upcoming TV movie,
An Adventure in Space and Time; in which Bradley portrays the original star of “Doctor Who,” William Hartnell. Bradley also made an appearance in the seventh season of “Doctor Who” and co-starred in the first season of “Broadchurch.” However, Bradley is best known in America for his appearances in the
Harry Potter films and his turn as Lord Walder Frey in HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”
In “The Strain,” Bradley’s character, Abraham Setrakian is a Holocaust survivor who may have answers to the vampire virus that is rapidly spreading in New York City.
“The Strain” will begin production later this month in Toronto and debut on FX in July 2014.
