If you think you know the story of Godzilla…well, you probably do.
But even though you've likely got a general grip on the whole "monster appears/city crumbles/chaos ensues" formula that's rolled out like clockwork during the previous 60 years of films starting the giant lizard, you've got to admit… the first trailer for the latest American reboot of the series looks mighty impressive.
Granted, we don't get any clear shots of what the reimagined King of Monsters looks like in director Gareth Edwards' upcoming Godzilla, but damned if the apocalypse-level destruction and sense of dread doesn't get your blood pumping to see this one. The fear and awe at Godzilla's size is the selling point of this opening trailer, although we do catch quick glimpses of the lizard's human co-stars, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche, Ken Watanabe and David Strathairn.
Undoubtedly, we'll get some better looks at Godzilla himself in upcoming trailers as we get closer to the May 16, 2014 release.
