FSU vs. Auburn: BCS Championship By The Numbers

The BCS era is finally coming to a close — Florida State taking on Auburn at the Rose Bowl for the crystal ball. It doesn’t get any better than that my friends. But how can we expect this game to play out? The results may be somewhere in the numbers…

-Florida State’s 53.0 points per game is the highest of any participant in the history of the BCS national championship game.

-The No. 1 ranked team entering the BCS title game is 7-8 against the No. 2 ranked team.

-The Heisman trophy winner has played in the BCS title game nine times in the same season as their individual award. Their record is 3-6 in those games.

-Only three players have won the Heisman trophy and the BCS championship in the same season — two of those were quarterbacks.

-If Florida State’s Jameis Winston wins on Monday night, he will become only the fifth quarterback in 49 years to win a championship and the Heisman trophy in same season.

– Auburn has won 88 consecutive games when scoring 30 or more points.

-Florida State’s defense is only allowing 10.7 points per game, which leads the nation.

-Florida State has given up 139 points for their entire 13 game season. Auburn has given up 148 points in their last five games.

-Florida State is just 28 points from owning the FBS record for points in a season.

-Florida State hasn’t trailed in a game since the second quarter against Boston College on September 28th. That comes out to 571 minutes and 49 seconds of game time.

-Auburn is 305-4 when scoring at least 30 points

-Florida State now has the most BCS championship game appearances with four. The Seminoles are 1-2 in their three previous tries.

-The SEC is 9-1 in BCS championship games. The only loss came from LSU, who faced another SEC team in Alabama during the 2011 season.

-Auburn is 4-8 all-time when facing the nation’s top-ranked team.

-Only two teams in major college football history have won every game by at least 14 points or more. With a FSU two-touchdown victory, the Seminoles would be the third.

-Auburn has a 13-4-1 lead in the Florida State series with their last matchup taking place in 1990.
