The worlds of Glen A. Larson and Donald P. Bellisario are about to collide.
At last weekend’s Emerald City Comic Con (via Comic Book Resources), Lion Forge Comics announced a crossover digital comic book series, “Knight Rider vs. Airwolf;” which will be written by “Empowered” creator, Adam Warren. During the Lion Forge panel at ECCC, Warren mentioned that characters from both TV series will be featured in the storyline. It was also noted that several one shots will be released that lead up to the crossover, including one from comic book veteran, Chuck Dixon (“Batman,” “Birds of Prey”).
“Knight Rider” was created for NBC in 1982 by Larson, and it followed the adventures of Michael Knight (as played by David Hasselhoff) and the incredibly advanced talking car known as the Knight Industries Two Thousand, or KITT for short.
Bellisario created “Airwolf” for CBS in 1984. The premise for the show revolved around the high tech military helicopter dubbed “Airwolf” and its pilot, Stringfellow “String” Hawke (Jan-Michael Vincent). “Airwolf” was more of a Cold War espionage show than “Knight Rider,” but both series are considered to be iconic.
During their respective original runs, a crossover between networks simply wasn’t possible. Now that both shows are in their respective eternal afterlives, nothing stands in the way of bringing these franchises together.
Lion Forge Comics is also publishing digital titles based on “Saved By The Bell,” “Punky Brewster” and “Miami Vice.” At ECCC, Lion Forge also announced that Cullen Bunn (“Deadpool”) is writing a “Night Trap” comic that will be inspired by classic ‘80s video games and horror movies. Lion Forge is also developing an autobiographical comic based on Andre the Giant in cooperation with the late wrestling legend’s estate. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is also getting his own Lion Forge comic with a fictionalized version of himself in “Rampage Jackson: Street Soldier.”
