Last year, Grant Morrison killed off the latest Robin, Damian Wayne during the final issues of his Batman, Incorporated run. But this is comics, and did anyone really believe that DC would let Batman’s son stay dead forever?
Over at the Los Angeles Times’ Hero Complex, DC Comics has confirmed the rumors that Robin will return in a Batman and Robin storyline that kicks off in the Robin Rises: Omega one shot in July. However, Batman and Robin writer, Peter Tomasi is playing coy about whether Damian will be coming back from the grave or if Batman is just getting another Robin… who would be his sixth Robin in the current continuity.
“You’re making a [big] assumption that it’s Damian that comes back from the dead,” said Tomasi. “And in a general note I’d say that anyone coming back from the dead, be it comics or in real life, would most likely result in some changes that no one expected.”
For the Robin Rises: Omega one shot, Tomasi will be teaming up with artist Andy Kubert before the story switches back to the rechristened Batman and Robin series with artist Patrick Gleason.
Tomasi also dropped a few hints about the storyline, which involves Batman facing off with Ra’s al Ghul, taking a trip to Apokolips and butting heads with the Justice League.
“All I can really say is that Bruce and the Justice League won’t be exactly seeing eye to eye on several important issues which may or may not lead to some rather strong emotional conflicts being put on display. And when it comes to something as powerful as the Chaos Shard, who knows what possibilities may present themselves.”
Son of Batman, the upcoming animated film based on Damian Wayne’s first appearance, will be screened this Friday at WonderCon in Anaheim.
