New Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Trailer Hits

2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes did what most fans of the Apes films didn't think possible — rebooted the franchise properly.

And if the new trailer for its sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is any indication, there's still plenty of story left to tell about ape leader-messiah Caesar and his simian uprising.

As evidenced in the trailer posted at — among other places — Crave film site Comic Book Movie, director Matt Reeves' new movie is set a decade after Rise with the super-evolved apes establishing a peaceful community away from humanity.  But when a band of human survivors from the devastating virus unleashed in Rise seek a fragile peace with Caesar's tribe, the interaction inevitably escalates to the brink of war.

And just in case you're curious, you can also check out the international version of the trailer below with some additional footage.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, starring Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman and Keri Russell, hits theaters July 11.
