Greater Western Sydney Giants young gun Toby Greene is in hot water after Victorian police charged the midfielder for his role in a Monday night nightclub incident.
Greene has copped several assault-based charges, including assault with a weapon, stemming from an incident involving an attack on a staff member at Melbourne’s Caulfield Hotel.
On leave heading into the club’s scheduled bye round this weekend, Greene was charged with intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing injury, affray, assault in company, assault by kicking, assault with a weapon, unlawful assault, making threats to inflict serious, being drunk in a public place and criminal damage. Another 19-year-old man was hit with similar counts.
“The Greater Western Sydney Giants are aware of an incident involving player Toby Greene in Melbourne last night,” the club said in a prepared statement on Tuesday.
“Greene has been charged by police in relation to the incident.
“The club is taking the matter very seriously and has no further comment to make at this stage.”
The 11th pick in the 2011 draft, Greene is having an outstanding season to the tune of 25 disposals per game and a shade under four marks per in 2014, including a 33-possession outing in GWS’ 111-point to West Coast on Sunday.
The 20-year-old is returning to the form that saw him average an amazing 28 possessions per game as a rookie in 2012 after seeing that number drop to 22.8 last season.
