Born in Montreal, Anna Hopkins (“Barney’s Version,” “The Grand Seduction”) is the latest actress to join the hit Showcase series “Defiance.” Other notable TV credits include a guest-starring role on “Nikita,” a supporting role in the miniseries “Human Trafficking” with Mira Sorvino and Donald Sutherland, and a supporting role in “Too Young To Marry” opposite Nina Dobrev.
Splitting her time between LA and Toronto, she explained how she’s also appearing in two flicks this year as well as divulged what she misses the most about her hometown of Montreal.
CraveOnline: Tell us about “Defiance” Season 2.
Anna Hopkins: For Season 2 I would say that the theme is occupation – I think that’s a real difference from the first season where the wild west theme is really apparent and we’re now trying to tame everything down and all the problems come from the occupation.
Any other projects you’re currently working on?
I just wrapped two movies, “After the Ball” and the other one is a French movie (called “Les Maîtres du Suspense”). I’m also doing a reoccurring character on the TV series “Arrow.”
Are you bilingual after growing up in Montreal?
Yes, I grew up bilingual, and funny enough it was only after I moved out of Montreal to Toronto that I worked on my first French film.
Where are you living now? Do you come back and visit? What do you love most about the city?
I moved out of Montreal a few years ago and moved to Toronto, and then I split my time between there and LA.
Do you come back to Montreal? What do you have to have when you’re home?
I make it back as often as I can. I was just there for a month doing a movie, so that was really nice. I love Montreal. And no place has the right kind of bagel so I always go to St Viateur Bagel, get a dozen and bring them home. There are also so many good restaurants – it’s amazing
What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?
I used to be a hip-hop dancer for many, many years. That was my first passion and my first experience at performance.
