24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY Episode 9

Previously on “24: Live Another Day”:
It was the biggest (and probably the best) episode of “24: Live Another Day” this week as one major plotline came to an end and another one began. There are massive spoilers ahead, so skip this recap if you haven’t seen last night’s episode!
Not Dead Yet
It was the lack of a silent clock in last week’s episode. That was the tipoff that President James Heller (William Devane) wasn’t part of the crater left by the missile that struck Wembley Stadium. I should have caught that, but I was fooled. So was Margot Al-Harazi (Michelle Fairley) and her son, Ian (Liam Garrigan). In return for Heller’s sacrifice, they begin destroying the drones that they had taken over.
However, Ian notices a sloppy bit of video trickery from Chloe O’Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub) that proves Heller is still alive. Enraged, Margot orders Ian to save the final drone and to prepare for their next target: Waterloo station.
Driving Mr. President
Back at Wembley, Heller is upset that Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) wouldn’t let him go through with the sacrifice play. And Heller is even more annoyed when Jack starts openly defying him. Hilariously, even Jack’s buddy, Belcheck (Branko Tomović) ignores the President’s orders by reminding him that he’s not an American.
Regardless, Belcheck delivers the President safely back to the British compound and Heller gratefully tells the Secret Service to show Belcheck some respect and to let him go.
One Last Gambit
Meanwhile, Kate Morgan (Yvonne Strahovski) and Erik Ritter (Gbenga Akinnagbe) are assigned to follow Jack’s lead as he closes in on Margot and Ian. Even Adrian Cross (Michael Wincott) proves to be useful by helping Chloe narrow down the search for Margot.
As Jack closes in on them, Ian starts to abandon his mother before she pulls a gun on him. Unsurprisingly, Ian rethinks his decision and he stays with Margot as they prepare to kill thousands of people at Waterloo station.
The Art of Defenestration
For once, Jack actually has backup from the CIA while going up against a superior force. And when the hallways of the building prove to be impenetrable, Jack taps into his inner John McClane and repels down the building. When Ian attempts to shoot Jack, he gets tossed out of the window in front of his mother.
With seconds left to spare, Jack follows Chloe’s advice and he diverts the missile into the water. As Margot yells at Jack about his responsibility for the day’s fatalities, he takes responsibility for her death… and throws her out the window to die next to her son.
Welcome back, Jack. That was why we missed you.
The Worst Professional
Well… that’s that, then. Jack’s got his Presidential pardon and the terrorists have been stopped. Guess we can call it a season. Oh wait… there was that other bit of business about Steve Navarro (Benjamin Bratt) having Jordan Reed (Giles Matthey) killed… by the worst assassin ever.
Steve’s assassin not only managed to get himself killed, but his death will inevitably lead Kate and the CIA to him. In desperation, Steve reaches out to Adrian Cross for an extraction. In return, Adrian wants the override device that Margot and Ian used to control the drones.
The Tao Panic of Steve
Much to Steve’s alarm, the combined resources of Jack’s never-before-mentioned source at the CIA and Kate quickly unravel the web of lies around Jordan’s murder. Just as Jack learns that Steve was once the handler of the dead assassin, Steve chokes out the man evaluating the override device and he steals it.
Steve tries to get one of his guards to slow down Jack… but this is Jack Bauer we’re talking about. Jack knocked out Steve’s guard in under a minute before pursuing Steve through the building.
Doublecrossed
Jack rarely captures his villains on the first try. Gotta save something for the final three episodes of the season! Therefore, Steve makes it outside and he contacts Adrian to set up a meeting. Chloe happens to be with Adrian, although she’s unaware that her lover is secretly the middleman for Steve and his employer.
We’re down to Steve and Adrian as the villains for this season, but there has to be someone bigger behind their actions. Adrian can’t be “the middleman” unless there’s someone on top. Also, there is the matter of the Russian who is blackmailing Mark Boudreau (Tate Donovan). So there are still some loose ends to tie up in London.
