The end is coming soon for “True Blood.”
Last Sunday, HBO premiered the first episode of “True Blood” Season 7. Now, there are only nine episodes left before this series comes to its end.
Back in 2008, Alan Ball adapted “True Blood” from novelist Charlaine Harris’ “The Southern Vampire Mystery” book series. But unlike “Game of Thrones,” “True Blood” has veered heavily away from the original storyline and it’s anyone’s guess as to how things will play out. Just because it happened in the books doesn’t mean that “True Blood” will follow the same path.
The seventh season premiere of “True Blood” actually raised more questions than it answered, with an enigmatic death, an unexplained absence and a taste of things to come. Ahead of this week’s second episode, I’ve compiled a list of Five Things That We’ve Learned from the “True Blood” season premiere.
Naturally, there are spoilers ahead from last Sunday’s “True Blood.’ Feel free to share your “True Blood” thoughts in the comment section below!
True Blood Season 7 Premiere - Five Things That We've Learned
Is Tara Dead?!
One of the more shocking moments of the season premiere came within the opening minutes as Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley) was killed by one of the Hep-V infected vampires.
Or was she?
We never actually see Tara die onscreen, which may allow the show to reveal that Tara is still alive... or undead. But if that’s the case, then where is Tara? And why would the Hep-V vampires take her away?
Tara’s mom, Lettie Mae Daniels (Adina Porter) said that she saw Tara’s ghost in the aftermath of the Hep-V attack. So, perhaps Tara’s spirit is still hanging around even if she is truly dead. Either way, don’t be shocked when Tara returns one way or another.
Vince Is Going To Be a Problem
Vince (Brett Rickaby) is a new character in the world of “True Blood.” Vince apparently lost the mayoral race to Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell). However, Vince is also one of the few humans who knows that Sam can change shape.
Granted, Vince is only in on Sam’s secret because he stupidly changed from a dog to his human form where Vince could see him. Sam may have gotten Vince to keep his mouth shut for now, but that’s not the end of this.
Another issue with Vince is that he is rabidly anti-vampire and he was among the group of human vigilantes who are looking to pick a fight with all vampires. Somehow, I think that Vince and his group may get their wish.
Jessica + Adilyn = ?
One of the strangest pairings in the season premiere put Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll) and Adilyn Bellefleur (Bailey Noble) together as Jessica dedicated herself to protecting Adilyn from the rogue Hep-V vampires.
This was strange because it was Jessica herself who murdered Adilyn’s sisters and attacked Adilyn when she was overcome by the smell of their Fae blood. But instead of hating Jessica, Adilyn seems drawn to her and she went out of her way to save Jessica’s life when the sun came up.
There was an unmistakable moment of tension when Jessica was brought into the house and she kept herself from attacking Adilyn. Was it out of friendship? Guilt? Or even sexual attraction? None of those reasons can be ruled out yet.
Everyone Hates Sookle
The curse of being a telepath is that you know what everyone really thinks about you. For Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), this was a sobering experience as she realized just how hated that she’s become in Bon Temps because of her relationships with vampires.
Even Sookie’s werewolf boyfriend, Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello) is harboring resentment for Sookie’s refusal to simply leave Bon Temps and for her “love of the dead.”
Sookie openly acknowledged that she may have earned this hatred... just as she outed herself as a telepath in front of the town.
If people disliked Sookie before, this will probably increase those feelings. The question now is whether Sookie can do anything to redeem herself in the eyes of her hometown.
Where In The World Is Eric Northman?
Conspicuous by his absence was Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård), one of Sookie’s former vampire lovers. Eric was last seen burning from exposure to the sun last season and no one has seen him since.
However, the seventh season premiere of “True Blood” makes it clear that Eric left some kind of trail... and Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) is very determined to find her maker.
It’s unclear whether Eric left clues before or after his unfortunate encounter with the sun. Or even if Eric wants to be found. But there’s no question about Eric’s eventual return. It’s just a matter of time before he blows back into Bon Temps to reclaim what is his.
