Stand Up To Cancer Canada will broadcast for the first time this year, actors Dan Aykroyd (“Ghostbusters”) and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (“Modern Family”) recently announced in Toronto.
Actor Kyle MacLachlan (“Twin Peaks,” “Desperate Housewives”) was also on-hand as the third Stand Up To Cancer Canada celebrity ambassadors.
Airing on September 5th at 8pm and coinciding with the star-studded Stand Up To Cancer event in Hollywood, California, the one-hour special will feature prominent names in sports and Hollywood in an effort to raise funds for cancer research. According to CBC News, the three previous Stand Up To Cancer television specials south of the border drew in an extraordinary lineup of actors, recording artists and athletes, raising an incredible $261 million US for cancer research.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Joel Gallen, who produced the US Stand Up To Cancer event last year, are returning to produce the special again this year in the US.
“CBC is privileged to participate in an event that encourages our country to band together to fight this disease, which affects so many Canadians,” said Sally Catto, general manager of programming for CBC Television (CBC News).
CBC, CTV, City, and Global will all air the event.
