Our host Erin Darling met up with The Book of Life director Jorge Gutierrez at Comic-Con 2014 today to talk about the film. Gutierrez talks about his past experiences at Comic-Con and how his young self dreamed of volunteering at a “big presentation”, only to eventually present his own movie at this year’s event. He also gets into what it’s like working with Guillermo del Toro, comparing their working relationship to Batman taking him under his cape. Gutierrez gets into the cast, the film, inspiration and more.
The Book of Life is an upcoming computer animated adventure rom-com and features voice talent such as Channing Tatum, Christina Applegate, Zoe Saldana, and Diego Luna. The film is being produced by Reel FX Creative Studios for 20th Century Fox, and will hit theaters on October 17, 2014.
Despite winning multiple Annie and Emmy awards for animated television series, this is Gutierrez’s first feature film.
