Steve-O: “Australia Keeps Letting Me In, Despite My Criminal Record”

A modern-day renaissance man, Steve-O has many talents. But when he’s not playing “the black-eye game” (exactly what it sounds like) or getting arrested for any number of reasons, Steve-O takes to the stage as a critically acclaimed stand-up comedian – it’s a talent he’s now brought back to Australia.

While in the country, we managed to ground Steve-O to discuss his current Australian tour, as well as a disturbing dream he recently had. The dream in question, admittedly more of a nightmare, involved the Jackass icon attempting to sleep with a man’s wife and trying to buy his house before learning that the man is in fact a pedophile.

“It was a terrible nightmare”, Steve-O told Mike Hohnen. “It’s obviously got something to do with anxiety around sex, which makes sense, because I’ve been celibate for over nine months now.” The news may come as a shock to some familiar with the famously live-fast-die-young and try-anything-once stuntman, but he’s spent almost a year “training to become a loyal, faithful man.”

“I can’t say it without laughing, but it’s true. I wanna have a life partner. I don’t want to be alone forever,” he says. “I’m getting ready to start some healthy dating.” Steve-O’s usual, less healthy habits, he tells us, involved meeting people after live shows, “picking the lucky winner” and lying when she says, “I bet you do this every night.”

“You start feel like a scumbag after a while. I’m not trying to tell people that too much sex is problematic, like telling a starving child in Africa that eating too much is bad, but I feel that way. I don’t wanna turn into Pauly Shore.” Turning his attention from pleasure over to business, he says, “It’s my fifth trip to Australia. They keep letting me in despite my always mounting criminal record.”

“Now that I’ve made it into Australia, it’s gonna be a wild time,” he predicts. “It’s rigorous, shameless, fucking shocking honesty. Your average comedian comes out, tells funny jokes and it’s a good time. In my case… it’s truly shameless. I’m the only comedian that’s going to get on stage and tell you about the time I got my dick sucked by a transvestite, which did happen.”
