It was announced Tuesday via FOX Sports 1’s “America’s Pregame” that the much anticipated fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier is now postponed until UFC 182 on Jan 3 after Jones suffered a leg injury recently during training.
Sources speaking to FOX Sports indicated that it was an ankle and knee injury believed to be a torn meniscus that forced Jones out of the fight against Cormier on Sept 27. Neither are severe enough to warrant surgery, but it will put the champion on the sidelines until he can return early next year.
The good news is he should be ready to get back in action on Jan. 3 as the new main event for UFC 182 while still facing Cormier with the title on the line.
Reports also say Demetrious Johnson will now face Chris Cariaso on Sept 27 at UFC 178.
In other news, Alexander Gustafsson is making headlines after making his frustration known regarding the rescheduling of the Jones fight. The fighter has been waiting for a rematch with Jones and this postponement with Cormier only delays Gustafsson’s title shot.
It’s really too bad all of this went down. It was just a week ago the internet exploded after Jones and Cormier broke out into a public brawl at their UFC media day.
