There are 23 (official) James Bond movies so far, and only a handful of them have iconic henchmen. Considering how many henchmen – or rather, henchpersons – have actually appeared in the James Bond franchise, it’s actually a little disconcerting how few of them made any sort of real impression. So the makers of the as-yet-untitled James Bond 24 have decided to do something about this little discrepancy by casting a physically imposing and, hopefully, ‘instantly iconic’ villain for our intrepid superspy hero in the latest installment.

A new report from the James Bond website MI6 reveals that the producers are seeking an all-new bad guy who meets the following description:
“Casting has begun for the main assassin, with the search specifically focussed on someone extremely physically fit and over 6′ 2″. Whoever wins the role will have several altercations with Daniel Craig’s 007 throughout the film and also a driving sequence. Former sports athletes will be under consideration along with anyone ‘very unusual’. The character has the working name of ‘Hinx’ (which may change before shooting starts) and is said to be between 30 and 45 years old… The goal is to find the next Jaws or Oddjob – a henchman so different to anything that has gone before that they will become instantly iconic in the film series.”
Will this “Hinx” character become a beloved part of James Bond canon like Rosa Klebb (From Russia with Love), Oddjob (Goldfinger), Jaws (The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker) or Xenia Onatopp (Goldeneye)? Or will, despite the filmmakers’ best intentions, they fall to the pop culture wayside like poor old Baron Samedi (Live and Let Die), Zao (Die Another Day) and whoever the heck Benicio del Toro was playing in License to Kill?
We’ll find out when James Bond 24 hits theaters on November 6, 2015. The film, directed by Skyfall‘s Sam Mendes, is expected to begin production in December.
