Labour Day Activities From Coast To Coast

Ahhh another awesome three-day weekend – Labour Day is the perfect time to get together with family and friends and soak in the dwindling weeks of summer. If you’re looking for something to do this long weekend, here are some cool Labour Day activities from coast to coast.

Halifax

Maritimers take every advantage to celebrate a holiday, even Labour Day. The Halifax Labour Day march, rally, community BBQ and music concert is gathering at 10am at Victoria Park, the Port Hawkesbury Labour Day celebration will take place from from 2-3pm at the CEP Union Hall, the Annapolis Valley Labour Day Picnic is being held from 11:30am-2:30pm at Memorial Park in Kentville, and the Cape Breton Labour Day Picnic will be held on the Downtown Sydney Board Walk. Phew!

Toronto

If you’re going to be in the TO, Cirque du Soleil: Kurios kicks off its latest show, and Fan Expo Canada will be in full swing. It’s also the second year of Open Streets T.O., where parts of Bloor and Yonge are closed to cars for pedestrians.

Montreal

In addition to hanging on one of the jam-packed outdoor terrasses along Crescent Street, St. Laurent, or at the Old Port, Montrealers can check out Quebec singer/songwriter Pierre Lapointe, who is performing a free concert at the Montreal Botanical Gardens. Or, just outside of the Montreal, there’s the annual Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival, a fantastic family-friendly daytime to-do.

Calgary

One of the coolest places to be on Labour Day weekend in Calgary is at the one of the oldest gatherings in North America: the Calgary Highland Games, who are celebrating 101 years. There’s also the 22nd annual BBQ On The Bow, Canada’s oldest barbecue competition.

Regina

Grey Cup fans can take advantage of Labour Day weekend with the Saskatchewan Roughriders “Play it Safe” Day,” taking place at Mosaic Stadium with Rider players and coaches, Gainer the Gopher, the Roughrider Pep Band, and the 620 CKRM Cheerleaders. Celebrating 23 years in 2014, Regina’s Dragon Boat Festival is happening Labour Day weekend as well. The race is now a recognized Dragon Boat Canada qualifying event for crews seeking entry into the World Championship and is held on scenic Wascana Lake.

Victoria

West Coasters know how to make the most of the three-day Labour Day weekend. In Victoria there’s the 37th annual Victoria Classic Boat Festival along with the Pacific National Exhibition, boasting hundreds of new performances and exhibits as well as more than 50 rides and attractions.
