At this point it’s pretty well known what the re-vamped, eighth-gen edition of Grand Theft Auto V is bringing to the table. Updated visuals, a slew of fresh gameplay features, an entirely new first-person mode built from the ground up; the list is long, and it’s impressive.
There are some features on this list exclusive to PlayStation platforms (specifically PS4), and the European PlayStation Blog has taken the liberty of outlining a few of them. You can check out the most notable additions below.
Switch seamlessly between camera perspectives on the fly (including from first person to third person), switch radio stations, weapons and camera angles, and even quick-toss a grenade in the middle of a firefight – all with a swipe or a tap on the Touch Pad.
Because any aspiring career criminal would do well to keep their enemies close, you’ll be able to hear police radio chatter through the DUALSHOCK 4 controller’s speaker, as well as receive phone calls from friends and acquaintances Michael, Franklin and Trevor make during the course of the game.
The controller’s light bar will change colour based on the character you are playing and when the LSPD heat is upon you, the Light Bar will flash red and blue to make it perfectly clear that you might want to be somewhere else.

I’ve seen people making fun of the flashing police lights idea, but I’m actually a big fan. Perhaps more exciting, though, is the use of the DS4’s speakers. This functionality has been around since the original Wii, and on that system I absolutely loved it. Hearing characters like Midna chirping from the controller in your hand, or hearing blows land hard in Wii Sports Boxing was always something I enjoyed, even with the tinny and — let’s face it — horrible speakers the Wiimote provided. The DualShock 4 will no-doubt offer a far superior experience.
As for calling friends, I do this constantly in GTA V. Particularly in the middle of a cop chase. “Yo, Trevor, I’ve got about six police cruisers on me, but I’m bored man! You wanna hang?” That’s how a true homie casually calls for backup.
GTA V is coming to PS4 and Xbox One on November 18th, so you don’t have to wait much longer to sink your teeth into the new features mentioned in this post. I don’t actually recommend biting the PS4 controller though. That might be painful.
