If you’re watching “Bates Motel,” it’s important to realize that the Norman Bates on TV (as portrayed by Freddie Highmore) isn’t the same Norman Bates that was immortalized by Anthony Perkins in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho… and the three sequels that people rarely talk about.
Modern Norman Bates has his own personality quirks. But over the past two seasons, Norman has picked up some of the bad habits of cinematic predecessor. That includes an unhealthy fascination with dead animals, romantic feelings for emotionally unavailable women, a really screwed up relationship with his mom… and murder. Yes, our little Norman is a killer of women. But he doesn’t realize it yet, as his inner “mother” has already convinced Norman that he didn’t kill Miss Watson.
In the first teaser trailer for “Bates Motel” Season 3, Norman takes another cue from Psycho, as he watches a very lovely young woman undress through a peephole.
The half naked girl in question is Annika, who will be played by former “Revolution” star Tracy Spiradakos.
As noted in the promo video, the first two seasons of “Bates Motel” are now on Netflix, and the third season is coming in March 2015.
