Young Drunk Punk Premieres Wednesday On Citytv

Bruce McCulloch of “Kids In The Hall” fame is back on television with a new Calgary-produced series, “Young Drunk Punk,” which is premiering on Wednesday, January 21st on Citytv.

In this new original comedy, the show follows the trials and tragedies of growing up on the fringes of society. Ian McKay (Tim Carlson, “Gracepoint”) and his best friend Shinky (Atticus Mitchell, “Fargo”) are two young punks searching for their great destinies in the back alleys of Calgary, Alberta, circa 1980.

McCulloch, who originally hails from Edmonton, Alberta, also gained notoriety as a writer on “Saturday Night Live” and for ABC’s comedy “Carpoolers,” and he guest starred on such series as “Gillmore Girls” and “Twitch City” as well. According to a Winnipeg Free Press article, McCulloch has been very open and honest about his challenging childhood, which he explored in his autobiography “Let’s Start a Riot: How a Young Drunk Punk Became a Hollywood Dad.” He will act in “Young Drunk Punk” too.

Early reviews aren’t super encouraging, however. Winnipeg Free Press writer Brad Oswald says, “It isn’t a bad show, and it’s possible that some viewers will like it a lot. But in the same way it fails to deliver on its title’s promise, ‘Young Drunk Punk’ disappoints because this story about when McCulloch was a kid doesn’t live up to the TV-comedy standard set when he was a Kid.”

The series “Young Drunk Punk” debuts on Citytv on Wednesday, January 21st at 7:30pm.
