Last fall, CBS outbid the other major networks for Supergirl, a live action series based on the popular DC Comics heroine. And while the final pickup was somewhat inevitable, CBS has made it official.
Supergirl has been ordered to series by CBS, a week before the network upfront presentations. Former Glee star Melissa Benoist headlines Supergirl as the title character, who is also known as Kara Zor-El. The new series follows Supergirl in her mid-twenties as she adjusts to living in the shadow of her famous cousin, Superman before striking out to become a hero in her own right.
Former Ally McBeal star Calista Flockhart costars in Supergirl as Cat Grant, with Chyler Leigh as Kara’s human foster sister, Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw.
The Flash producer Greg Berlanti co-created this version of Supergirl alongside Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg. A premiere date for Supergirl was not announced, but it could premiere on CBS as soon as this fall.
CBS will unveil the rest of its Fall 2015 programs later this month.
