The Punisher, Ghost Rider & Blade Rumored For Marvel’s Netflix Phase 2

In 2013, Marvel and Netflix announced an ambitious deal for four original series following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist before teaming them up in The Defenders miniseries. The response to Daredevil led an early renewal for that series, but Marvel may have even grander ambitions for the future.

Heroic Hollywood has posted a report that supposedly lays out Marvel’s potential TV plans, both on Netflix and for other outlets. If the rumors are true, Marvel is looking to incorporate The Punisher, Ghost Rider, and Blade into a Phase 2 of Netflix series. However, there is said to be concern that the Punisher and Blade are too “one-note” and violent for Marvel’s tastes. And there are also worries that Ghost Rider and Blade might push the Netflix series too far into the supernatural.

If the new characters are given their own series on Netflix, the report suggests that they would first appear on Marvel’s other Netflix series as backdoor pilots. Under the currently laid out plans, Marvel would potentially have a two to three series per year on Netflix in the proposed Phase 2.

As for Daredevil, Heroic Hollywood suggests that cast members from that series will appear in AKA Jessica Jones as part of the buildup to The Defenders. The report also confirms that Elektra is coming to Daredevil Season 2.

Outside of Netflix, Marvel is said to be looking at Cloak & Dagger, Ms. Marvel and a Hulk prequel. The rumors of friction between Marvel’s TV and film divisions is also touched upon, as the Inhumans movie is expected to ignore everything that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has set up for its Inhuman characters.

Keep in mind, none of this is confirmed. But Heroic Hollywood’s reporters have a good track record, so there is a strong chance that this is real.
