The Lion King Is Getting A Roaring New TV Sequel, Starring Rob Lowe As Simba

Disney just can’t wait to revive The Lion King. The classic 1994 Oscar-winner is getting a brand new sequel called The Lion Guard: Return Of The Roar, starring Chris Traeger himself, Rob Lowe, literally, as Simba.

Lowe heads up an all-star voice cast, which also features Gabrielle Union as Nala, James Earl Jones returning as Mufasa (who’s still dead, but lives on in spirit because, Disney), not to mention when-I-was-a-young-warthog Ernie Sabella and what-do-you-want-me-to-do-dress-in-drag-and-do-the-hula Kevin Schon reprising their roles as Timon and Pumbaa.

Yes, okay, technically Nathan Lane played Timon in the original film, but Schon took over for him in Disney’s animated “The Lion King’s Timon and Pumba” TV series.

The made-for-TV movie will centre on the character of Kion, Simba’s second-born faux-hawked son, as he becomes the leader of the ‘Lion Guard’ – a team of animal pals who get into wacky capers while trying to preserve the Pride Lands.

The movie will act as a precursor to the previously announced Lion Guard series, which is set to debut on the Disney Channel and Disney Junior in 2016.

The Lion Guard: Return Of The Roar will also star Sarah Hyland (Modern Family), Max Charles (The Strain), Atticus Shaffer (The Middle) and many more.

It’s set to premiere in November. Check out the teaser clip below and get your Hakuna Matata on.
