Apple’s announcement of its AirPods went over like a lead balloon, with many upset that the iPhone 7’s headphone jack had been removed to make way for the wireless earbuds. Though the AirPods will ship with the iPhone 7 upon the smartphone’s release, Apple is selling them separately for $149 which, when you consider how incredibly easy it will be to misplace them, has raised the ire of many iPhone buyers.
However, mobile phone accessory company Spigen has acknowledged these concerns and devised a solution, with the company now selling an “AirPod Strap” for $9.99. The strap is basically just a wire which attaches to your AirPods, connecting one ear piece directly to the other. Unsurprisingly, the key selling point of the Strap is to “make sure that your AirPods are always by your side,” by allowing them to drape around your neck whenever you aren’t using them.
With so many worried that they’ll lose their AirPods immediately after purchasing an iPhone 7, the AirPod Strap offers a solution to this issue, with it on track to become the first in a series of similar accessories looking to take advantage of the upcoming smartphone’s perceived flaw. Amazon states that the AirPod Strap will in stock on October 17, meaning that it will trail behind the iPhone 7’s release date of September 16, but if you want to pre-order the accessory you can do so right here.
A cynic might suggest that Apple will eventually release its own AirPod Strap, complete with a premium price point as the company is wont to do, but we’ll have to wait and see just how many problems iPhone 7 users have with keeping tabs on their AirPods to wager whether or not this particular line of accessories will prove to be a success.
