2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Convertible Meets the Bandit

There is simply not much I can say about the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Convertible by way of a balanced, well-considered review. There’s nothing negative to say about this car. It’s well-built, quick, fast, sophisticated, beautifully styled, technically accomplished and comfortable.

That’s it. I’m done with the review. That gives me time to tell you a story — two stories, actually. The first is a bit more fictional, and the second is much closer to what actually happened. They’ll run concurrently, and the former might seem more compelling than the latter. It can’t be helped.

It was March down south, and there was a truckload of illegal Coors in Texarkana that needed to get to Atlanta within 28 hours. The seemingly impossible stunt would require an 18-wheeler to drive flat out along the highway while another hot sports car distracted the police with its antics. There’s $80,000 on the line if the beer arrives on time. They had a long way to go, and a short time to get there.

Meanwhile, I had to get the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Convertible from Atlanta to the Amelia Island Concours de Elegance within six hours. It was absolutely doable with this Jaguar’s 5.0 liter V8 with 575 horsepower. Sure, I would speed a bit. It’s hard not to in this gorgeous machine. That would leave me plenty of time for a wonderful, leisurely lunch of southern BBQ comfort food.

As the Coors run flew for Georgia, a hostile Southern sheriff got on the decoy’s trail. While law enforcement fell into the decoy’s trap, the foul-mouthed redneck maintained hot pursuit. The bootleg beer hustling would come to an unhappy end if the decoy found himself in a primitive rural prison under the thumb of the ruthless sheriff.

When I parked at a friendly gas station in a tiny South Georgia town, a couple local deputies strolled up to the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Convertible to see if I was involved in some kind of Cannonball Run, since my F-Type was adorned with a special #60 to celebrate 1957 and Jaguar’s last of three consecutive wins at the 24 hours of Le Mans. I told the deputies that this wasn’t any sort of movie, and I promised I wouldn’t speed until I got to Florida.

Thanks to skillful driving and clever deceptions, the beer and both drivers arrived in Atlanta safely. Before they could collect their $80,000, they bet double or nothing that the same driving team can’t bring clam chowder to Atlanta from Boston in 18 hours. Their antics continue.

I arrived in Jacksonville before dark and got caught in slow moving traffic while making my way to Amelia Island for the concours. After I arrived, I parked the beautiful 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Convertible at my resort and headed off to my gorgeous two bedroom suite. Dinner was great, too.

All totaled, the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Convertible is damn near perfect. But, not every run it adds up to a movie.

Enjoy.
