NYIAS 2017: New Dodge Challenger Demon Shatters the 1/4 Mile

The NYIAS 2017 press preview days were full of high tech debuts of new automotive assistants, hybrid, self-driving cars, more efficient engines and anything else the car lover associates with modernity and progress. And, of course, it was talk of raw, brute power and speed that dominated the event.

At a special debut event that sported the biggest crowd and most media fuss of any roll-out during NYIAS 2017, Dodge hit New York up alongside the head with the 2018 Dodge Challenger Demon. Immediately setting records for the fastest 0-60 mph time (2.3 seconds) and quarter mile time (9.65 seconds) for any consumer vehicles, the Demon is now the status symbol for any driver eager to extend a middle finger to the move away from V8 horsepower and torque.

This Demon burns thanks to a 6.2 liter, supercharged V8 putting out a well-rounded 808 horsepower and a crooked 717 lb-ft of torque. Those numbers are close enough to professional drag racing specs that many tracks won’t let amateurs bring their new Demons out to play once they arrive in driveways.

At launch, the Demon pulls a 1.8 G-Force and lifts its front wheels off the payment like a speed boat with too big a Johnson hanging off the stern. Hardcore track and drag racing enthusiasts can order the car with a single seat without significantly changing the cost of the car.

No final price is public yet for the Dodge Challenger Demon, and only 3,000 will be built for North America. (Some 300 will go to Canada.) The vehicle should haunt our world come autumn.
