Fall is upon us. And while that means the eventuality of brown, orange, yellow, and red leaves littering the landscape in some parts of the country as well as cooler temperatures and shorter days, it also means the return of The Great British Baking Show. If you’ve yet to watch this English baking competition, you have a lot to catch up on before the season premiere on Netflix on Sept. 24. That’s because this is the 12th season of the popular show.

To give you a bit of background, The Great British Baking Show has been on the air since 2010. Each season, 12 amateur bakers compete in three weekly challenges per episode. The first is a “signature bake” in which the bakers are able to show their creativity, a “technical bake” which is designed to see how technically proficient each competitor is, and a “showstopper bake” in which the bakers show off all of their talents. Each competition is tasted and judged by a panel of experts.

Unlike American game shows, there is no massive cash prize for the winner. They simply receive the recognition of being named the “Master Baker,” beating out all of the other competitors over the course of 12 weeks. While there is obvious stress and anxiety for the competitors, it’s a calming, entertaining show that you can easily spend hours binging.
