Grovemade Goes All Hippie with iOS Device Protection

There’s a long-standing human tendency to turn away from technology with minor rebellions when it becomes ever-present and unrelenting.

In a world of MP3s and CDs, music lovers are buying turntables and vinyl records for a warmer analog sound. While hybrids and electric cars are en vogue and almost a guilt-riddled requirement of modern driving, there are still men and women out there who opt for old-fashioned V8 power.

Grovemade stepped into the market a few years ago with a selection of products made from good ole’ wood, bamboo and other natural materials. Based in Portland, Oregon, the company creates handcrafted products from natural materials in a small workshop of (in Grovemade’s own words) “designers, craftspeople, and support staff.” Their line extends to iOS devices and Apple laptops.

The Oregonians sent over some samples of their iPad cases and iPhone stands, including models in Bamboo and Maple. The craftsmanship is apparent in — especially in the Bamboo iPad case (above, left). The protective face of the case rolls back in hinged stages, rolling up into a rounded end that doubles as a stand.

The most expensive units in the case line come in just north of $100, with prices varying depending on materials used.

The strangest thing about these Grovemade products is their cross appeal. Obviously, your Earth Day-obsessed hippie types can’t wait to wrap up their devices with some anti-carbon footprint Maple or Bamboo. But, the rugged outdoorsman would be just as happy charging his iPad in a Walnut case that matches his cabin.

Everybody goes home happy — and woodsy.
