Google has been crowned the most valuable brand in the world, surpassing Apple which has seen a 20% drop in its value.
Research company Millward Brown revealed the results of its research, which gave an insight into how Apple’s brand value is declining while Google’s is rising. The 20% that Apple dropped in value now puts it at $148 billion, while Google has risen by a whopping 40% to $159 billion. Pretty impressive when you consider the amount of risks Google is making, such as the divisive Google Glass, but Millward Brown’s Peter Walshe believes that it is exactly these kind of risks that are putting Google back in the driving seat.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Walshe said: “To gain more of our mind-space brands such as Google are making ambitious plays across existing category boundaries.”
Elsewhere in the list, Twitter, LinkedIn and Ericcson made their debut at number 15, 17 and 20 respectively. Speaking of these new movers, Walshe said: “Digital service brands such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, Tencent and LinkedIn are now more than just tools, they have become part of our lives.
“They offer new forms of communication that absorb people’s attention and imagination, while also helping them organise the rest of their lives at the same time.”
