BBC Will Test World Cup 2014 Matches in Ultra HD 4K Resolution

The BBC is set to test the World Cup 2014 matches it broadcasts in ultra HD. This means that we may get to watch football in an incredible 4K resolution very soon.

Though the broadcaster’s trial run with the new technology will be done for research purposes only, meaning that those who own a 4K TV won’t be able to watch the matches in Rio, Brazil in ultra high-definition just yet, it does mean that the BBC is working towards getting to grips with the technology for broadcasting football in 4K in the future.

BBC is working alongside its research partner Arcqiva in order to transmit live UHD streams over the Internet and TV. It will mark the very first time UHD streaming has been implemented in the UK.
