Australia and New Zealand will join Japan as the only countries to receive the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL in 2014 while the rest of the world is forced to wait until next year.
Nintendo Australia delivered the announcement via YouTube on Wednesday, declaring a November 21 release date for both handheld consoles.
The products will hit Australian shelves a little more than a month after Nintendo releases the New 3DS in Japan on October 11, seemingly the first time Nintendo has prioritised the Australian gaming market over other regions.
“Both of these consoles will be released in Australia and New Zealand on the 21st of November this year,” Nintendo Australia managing director Tom Enoki declared in the YouTube teaser.
“This will be the first launch outside of Japan as there are no plans to release the system in America or Europe this year,” he continued.
Priced at A$219.95 and A$249.95 respectively, the New 3DS will originally only be available in white however the New 3DS XL will also come in alternate metallic black and blue colour ways. A range of cover plates will also follow the Australian launch, including a number of Super Mario themed designs.
Nintendo has also confirmed previous 3DS releases are compatible with both new systems.
The new devices will not come with the $14.95 AC adapter, but are compatible with previous DS and 3DS adapters.
