Sony Hacked and Shut Down, Hackers Claim its “Secrets Will Be Revealed”

Sony Pictures has found itself on the receiving end of a huge attack this week, after hackers infiltrated the company’s servers and obtained an abundance of secret files, forcing its entire computer system offline.

The hacking group, who refer to themselves as “Guardians of Peace,” initially managed to breach a single server, but eventually the attack spread across the entirety of Sony Picture’s network, forcing the company to go offline globally.

An insider on Reddit shared the above image, which was allegedly “on every computer all over Sony Pictures nationwide.” Guardians of Peace, also known as #GOP, have already leaked a large ZIP file they have obtained which details the extent of their doxxing of Sony. According to the image spread across Sony Pictures’ network, #GOP is now planning to release more confidential files if their requests our not met.

Sony has released a statement saying that the company is currently investigating the “IT matter,” which is a very unsubtle way of downplaying what seems to be a huge online attack.

The company will likely be hoping that this attack doesn’t mimic the massive PSN hack back in 2011, which saw the PS3’s online network go offline for weeks in what is now recognized as the fourth biggest online attack of all time.
