Jurassic World Cocktails!

Jurassic Park was the Star Wars for those of us who grew up in the late eighties and early nineties. We missed the actual Star Wars franchise by a few years (although we still love it), but were the right age to be awed by the spectacle that was Steven Spielberg’s epic Jurassic Park.

There were few other movies that were so eagerly awaited by youngsters in the early 90s. The 1993 movie both dazzled and frightened audiences. Based on the book by the late Michael Crichton, Jurassic Park opened movie goers’ eyes to a world where dinosaurs, through cloning, could finally walk among us again. Who doesn’t love dinosaurs, right? How could that possibly go wrong? A dinosaur that spits acid, you say? Everything is going to work out just fine.

Well, everything didn’t exactly go according to plan on Isla Nublar, the island off the coast of Costa Rica where the story took place. The T-Rex got out, ate a lawyer (while he was hiding in a portable toilet) and ran amok because Dennis Nedry (played by Seinfeld’s Wayne Knight) wanted to sell a few Embryos and screwed with the computers.

The Raptors got out and pretty much ruined everybody’s day because they figured out how to open doors and screw around in the previously cleaned kitchen. All in all, it didn’t work out. Two less celebrated movies followed and here we are. It’s been over twenty years since the first movie came out. That’s just about the right amount of time to try to grab even a little bit of the excitement of the first movie.

Jurassic World is the reboot of the franchise. Its star is leading-man-du-jour Chris Pratt who brings just right the amount of brawn, charisma and humor to every role he portrays. Jurassic World hits theaters on June 12th and is sure to be in the mix for this year’s summer blockbuster. It’s obvious that, like in the other film’s, things couldn’t possibly go according to plan at the amusement park. A dinosaur or two will inevitably escape, creating the kind of shenanigans we are all accustomed to. Luckily, Chris Pratt will be there to bail us all out with his motorcycle and pack of trained raptors. (What?)

The Clever Girl

The clever girl is all about efficiency, which is why her drink of choice is this SVEDKA 100-Proof martini. The name is a reference to the first film when Robert Muldoon (portrayed by Bob Peck) uttered the phrase right before he met his demise by a raptor that outsmarted him. While lesser prehistoric party-goers think they’ve outmaneuvered the herd by shaking up a classic martini, the clever girl can smile with satisfaction knowing that her martini is made with super-smooth Svedka– 50% alcohol by volume.

INGREDIENTS

2½ parts SVEDKA 100°

½ part dry vermouth

Dash orange bitters (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice, and stir or shake until cold. Pour into a chilled Martini glass, and garnish with olives.

Dilophosaurus Venom

Don’t let this fizzling, fun-looking drink fool you–it’s got some serious bite just waiting to (h)eat your face up! Hidden within the bubbly concoction, jalapeños lie in wait to spice up the night for each unsuspecting sipper. Just ask Dennis Nedry how he felt about his run-in with the “Spitter” and you’ll know to show this spicy cocktail the respect it deserves.

INGREDIENTS

ONEHOPE Sparkling Brut

1 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice

1 oz. tequila

3 slices jalapeño (more for garnish)

a dash of agave

lime wedge

salt

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine lime juice, tequila, jalapeño and agave into a shaker filled with ice. Shake to combine and pour into a salt rimmed glass. Garnish with extra jalapeño or lime wedge.

Fossil Fuel

We’ve learned more in the past decade from flavored vodkas than a century of combining vodka with juices; and now, a whole new frontier of alcoholic beverages is upon us. This ain’t your grandpa’s drink, we’ve upped the ante with a twist of SVEDKA’s Citron and Raspberry vodkas to create a cocktail that’s sure to get any old bag of bones moving faster than a T-Rex (which we clocked at 32 miles per hour).

 INGREDIENTS

1 part SVEDKA Citron
1 part SVEDKA Raspberry
½ part triple sec
½ part simple syrup
½ part fresh lime juice
Dash celery bitters
Splash grapefruit juice
Splash club soda

INSTRUCTIONS
Combine SVEDKA Citron, SVEDKA Raspberry, triple sec, lime juice, simple syrup, and bitters in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a Collins glass. Top with grapefruit juice and club soda. Garnish with a lemon, lime, and orange wedge.

The Hybrid

John Hammond (portrayed by the late Sir Richard Attenborough) had a dream that Jurassic Park would capture the imagination of the entire world with beautiful and fantastical creatures we’d only read about before. ONEHOPE Wines dreamted of creating beautiful and delicious cocktails that simultaneously capture the taste buds and give back to the entire world. With The Hybrid, they’ve succeeded in creating a cocktail as unexpectedly delicious as it is noble in its quest to end childhood hunger by fusing sparkling wine and creamy gelato. Yum!

INGREDIENTS

1 (750ml) bottle of ONEHOPE Sparkling Wine

1 ounce vodka

1 small scoop blackberry sorbet

4 small scoops blueberry gelato

1 cup crushed ice

Orchids (for garnish)

INSTRUCTIONS

In a mixer, combine all ingredients and 1/4 bottle of Sparkling Wine. Blend until frothy and serve in your favorite glassware.  Garnish with orchids – Cheers!

Flock This Way

Everyone’s been flocking toward the hottest trend in summer cocktails–jalapeños; and SVEDKA Vodka’s new Grapefruit Jalapeño flavor has made it easier than ever to craft delicious cocktails more fluidly than a flock of birds (or Gallimimus) evading a predator (or a T-Rex). With a taste this smooth, our Grapefruit Jalapeño vodka will be the hottest attraction at the park this summer (sorry, Idominus Rex).

INGREDIENTS

1½ parts SVEDKA Grapefruit Jalapeño
½ part orange juice
½ part honey syrup
¾ part fresh lemon juice

INSTRUCTIONS
Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with skewered jalapeño slices.
