Apple Unveils the iPad Pro at Apple Event

Apple debuted the long-awaited iPad Pro during its Apple Event today.

The new tablet, which features the “biggest screen on an iOS device” and “more power and performance than any iOS device,” according to Apple, will feature a full-sized virtual keyboard and is super thin, though it measures in at 12.9 inches.

The iPad Pro features a 5.6 million pixel screen, with an A9X chip that boasts 2x memory bandwidth of the A8X and 2x faster storage performance.

Apple branded the iPad Pro “desktop” and “console-class” performance, which is hugely debatable but what would an Apple Event be without hyperbole?

Apple also added that the Pro is faster than 80% of PCs shipped within the past six months, with graphics that are 90% faster than those PCs, with this newly improved performance meaning that it opens up the door for brand new apps and games.

The Pro will also feature a 10-hour battery life, and four speakers that provides a balanced audio experience. The Pro will also feature a physical keyboard, similar to that of Microsoft’s Surface.

Apple was met with a round of unfortunate laughter when they announced the Apple Pencil, which is essentially the Pro’s stylus, which features “highly responsive sensors” built into its tip that can can measure pressure, tilt and stroke.

The company also announced a new partnership with Microsoft, who are bringing Microsoft Office to the iPad Pro.

Apple then brought on Adobe to highlight Adobe Fix being used on the iPad Pro, with Adobe’s Edward Snowden using the tool to “fix” a model’s smile. Yes, it was a little awkward to watch.

The iPad Pro also features an app called 3D4Medical, which shows 3D models of the human anatomy animated in real time, with it intended to be used by doctors.

If this all seems quite amazing, then you will likely be disappointed to hear its incredibly high price point. The 32GB model costs $799, while the 128GB version costs $959 and the 128GB version costs $1079, with the Apple Pencil priced at $99 and the Smart Keyboard at $169.

The iPad Pro will be released in November.
