The digital re-releases of the games mark the beginning of a new business plan from Nintendo, as they aim to release popular Wii games on the Wii U’s eShop. The promotion begins with the release of Super Mario Galaxy 2 today, followed by the release of Punch-Out on January 22nd.

Nintendo will be selling the games for $20, though will reduce that price to $10 on the week of their release. This means that you can get Super Mario Galaxy 2 right now for ten bucks. What are you waiting for?!

While the Wii U has always offered backwards compatibility with Wii games, up until now the system has had to switch to a different mode to be able to play them. Nintendo announced today that it plans to change this, with Wii games appearing on the console’s home screen as software icons alongside other apps and games.

This is certainly a great promotion for those looking to explore the Wii’s healthy back catalog, and we can’t wait to get our hands on some classics from the last generation.
