Do you remember when summer had nothing to offer television fans but repeats and reality shows? Those days are long over, and Peak TV is here! That means we now have a year round television schedule and more TV than you could ever hope to see. It’s a good problem to have, but it is a problem.
Fortunately, we’re all about solutions here at Crave! Before you get too deep into the summer schedule, we’ve got a handy guide to ten of our favorite dramas that are coming back in the next few weeks and months. Aquarius
Network: NBC
Season Premiere: June 16
NBC’s ‘60s era drama, Aquarius is back for another season, and David Duchovny’s LAPD detective Sam Hodiak may be in big trouble! There may be a witness who saw Hodiak unjustly kill a criminal during last season’s finale. Meanwhile, Charles Manson (Gethin Anthony) and the Manson family are continuing their reign of terror. The Last Ship
Network: TNT
Season Premiere: June 26
Because of the events of the Orlando Pulse tragedy, the season premiere of The Last Ship was pushed back a week. Be warned, there is a similar scene in the season premiere, which may prove to be uncomfortable for some viewers. Last season wrapped up most of the major plotlines, as Dr. Scott created a “contagious cure” for the virus that devastated the world, while the Nathan James was sent away for repairs.
The third season will put Captain Chandler and his crew back in the line of fire as they attempt to spread the cure and confront their enemies.
Ray Donovan
Network: Showtime
Season Premiere: June 26
Has the infamous Hollywood fixer found religion? After narrowly surviving his conflict with the Armenians last season, Ray Donovan is apparently on the straight and narrow while rebuilding his relationships with his family. But knowing Ray, that won’t last long at all.
Killjoys
Network: Syfy
Season Premiere: July 1
Killjoys was one the surprises of Summer 2015, as it made a very positive impression on sci-fi fans alongside Dark Matter on Syfy. At the end of last season, D’avin was soundly defeated by Dutch’s mentor, Khlyen just as a revolution was breaking out and a successful coup was pulled off.
Presumably the new season will reunite the trio of Dutch, D’avin, and John, but their corner of the galaxy has become a lot more complicated.
Dark Matter
Network: SyFy
Season Premiere: July 1
Throughout the first season of Dark Matter, the crew of the Raza attempted to learn who they were before their memories were wiped, and discover which crew member betrayed them all. The answers came within the final moments of the first season, and we’ve been waiting nearly a year to discover why this person betrayed their friends. Considering that the rest of the crew has been captured, they’re gonna need some help getting out of this one!
Tyrant
Network: FX
Season Premiere: July 8
Howard Gordon’s “Reverse Homeland” finally started to come together last season, as Tyrant incorporated a very ISIS-like enemy into the fictional country of Abuddin as the disgraced Bassam “Barry” Al-Fayeed fought for his people as an insurgent. Now Barry may finally assume control of the country itself. But how long will it be before he becomes a tyrant as well?
Mr. Robot
Network: USA
Season Premiere: July 13
Mr. Robot was a very stark departure from USA’s signature light dramas, and there’s no easy way to sum up that first season finale if you haven’t been watching all along. For now, it’s enough to say that this show follows a hacktivist Elliot Alderson, who gets sucked into the crusade of a fellow hacker who calls himself “Mr. Robot.”
It’s a really well written series, and you should have enough time to binge Mr. Robot’s ten episode first season before the new season begins next month.
Halt and Catch Fire
Network: AMC
Season Premiere: August 2016
Halt and Catch Fire is one of the rare AMC dramas that flies under the radar despite critical acclaim. The series is set in the early ‘80s at the dawn of the personal computer revolution. Last season, most of the main characters reunited at the Mutiny company and relocated to San Francisco. While Lee Pace’s Joe MacMillan was forced out of his own company, he already lined his next venture by the end of season 2, and he’ll presumably cross paths with his former colleagues soon enough.
Fear The Walking Dead
Network: AMC
Mid-season Premiere: August 21
Just a few weeks ago, the makeshift family unit of Fear The Walking Dead was destroyed. Travis abandoned Madison and her kids to stay with his increasingly crazy son, Chris; while Nick rejected his mother and sister after the destruction of the compound. And it sure seems like Daniel may be dead after torching the zombies that were being held. Because this show isn’t based on the comic book series, it’s anyone’s guess about what’s coming next.
The Strain
Network: FX
Season Premiere: August 28
Last season on The Strain, Ephraim Goodweather came up with a way to weaponize the vampires against each other with a virus. But that triumph was short-lived, as he lost his son to Eph’s wife-turned-vampire, and Nora committed suicide rather than allow herself to be turned as well. The only bright spot may be that Fet and Setrakian have formed an alliance with the vampire known as Quinlan to trap the Master. But so far, the Master and his minions have been unstoppable.
