Idris Elba Cancels Glastonbury Appearance Due to ‘The Dark Tower’ Filming Schedule

Idris Elba will no longer perform his scheduled Glastonbury 2016 DJ set, with the actor revealing that filming for the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower will conflict with the festival.

Elba addressed the last minute cancellation on Facebook, apologising to those who were looking forward to watching his DJ set at the three-day event. The actor then revealed that he was still filming on The Dark Tower set, the first entry in the movie adaptation series of Stephen King’s dark fantasy novels. Elba will play Roland Deschain in the films.

Elba concludes the video by encouraging viewers to vote in the upcoming EU referendum, which will take place on June 23rd. The London-born actor has previously stated that he backs the Remain campaign, hitting out at the anti-immigration stance adopted by those backing Leave. Taking to Twitter, Elba wrote: “My parents immigrated to the UK, worked hard and made a contribution … ME.”

The Luther star was set to appear at Glastonbury’s six-stage Silver Hayes, alongside the likes of Craig David and DJ Annie Mac.
