If you need more Westerns on your Saturday nights, AMC has paired the final run of episodes from Hell on Wheels‘ final season to go along with an eight-part docu-drama miniseries, The American West. For two months, The American West will explore the post Civil War period that gave birth to the legends of outlaws, cowboys, Native American warriors, and the law men who tried to bring order back to the land.
When it comes to the west, there are few legends bigger than Jesse James. Even in the present, James is still remembered for his exploits, even if his adventures were wildly exaggerated. But the man was a thief and a killer, and James made plenty of enemies, including Allen Pinkerton, of the Pinkerton Detective Agency.
In this exclusive clip, Kiefer Sutherland discusses the source of Pinkerton’s vendetta against Jesse James and his gang, which includes Pinkerton planning James’ murder! As Sutherland notes, the lawmen and the criminals weren’t that far apart in terms of morality…and the bullets are gonna fly!
Here’s AMC’s description of the show:
“Spanning the years 1865 to 1890, The American West, will show how – in the aftermath of the Civil War – the United States transforms into the “land of opportunity.” Viewers will be transported into the violent world of cowboys, Indians, outlaws and law men. The 8-episode limited event series chronicles the personal, little-known stories of Western legends such as Jesse James, Billy the Kid, Wyatt Earp, Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull. The series features exclusive interviews with notable names from classic Western films, including Redford, James Caan, Burt Reynolds, Tom Selleck, Kiefer Sutherland, Mark Harmon, Ed Harris and more.”
The American West episode 3 airs this Saturday, June 25 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
