TIFF and Instagram have launched a new digital shorts competition. Judged by film heavyweight like Xavier Dolan, submissions were being accepted as of this past Wednesday, with a July 20th deadline.
Called the “TIFFxInstagram Shorts Festival,” it invites aspiring and established filmmakers from around the globe to share their original works. The website instructs: “Instagram video is beautiful, addictive – and now lasts up to 60 seconds. Upload your short film to Instagram, hashtag #TIFFxInstagram, and complete your submission below.”
TIFF programmers will select 30 finalists to be showcased on TIFF’s website and Instagram channel from August 8 to 17, and their six-person jury comprised of film industry professionals and influential Instagram community members will select one winner for the Judge’s Choice Award. This year’s jury consists of Montreal filmmaker Dolan as well as Ava Duvernay, Rachel Ryle and Nabil Elderkin (more jurors will be announced in the coming weeks).
