Over the weekend at Star Wars Celebration, the animated series Star Wars Rebels managed to steal a little bit of Rogue One‘s thunder by confirming the rumors of Grand Admiral Thrawn’s status as the main villain for season 3. But that doesn’t mean that the show has forgotten about Darth Maul!
It was Star Wars: The Clone Wars that rectified The Phantom Menace‘s mistake and brought back Darth Maul after his ridiculously inglorious death. Although he may no longer answer to “Darth,” Maul is still as lethal as any Sith, which Kanan found out the hard way in the season 2 finale.
IGN debuted a clip from the upcoming third season of Rebels which finds Maul once again facing Kanan and Ezra. And the Jedi Knight makes a very key mistake. Never turn your back on Maul.

Of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Star Wars Rebels is poised to top its excellent second season with the introduction of Thrawn, Wedge, and the Bendu, a powerful Force creature voiced by the Doctor himself, Tom Baker! Lucasfilm has posted a high quality version of the trailer on YouTube, and it kicks up the drama several notches with an older Ezra, a blinded Kanan finding new eyes, and the Rebel alliance on the verge of collapse at the hands of Thrawn’s calculated assaults.
Star Wars Rebels season 3 will premiere this fall on Disney XD.
