Mercury Prize 2016 Nominations: David Bowie and Radiohead Lead the Running

The Mercury Prize 2016 nominations have been announced, with David Bowie and Radiohead leading the charge among the list of nominees.

The annual award is given to the best album released by a British or Irish artist, with last year’s gong being handed to Benjamin Clementine for his LP At Least For Now. This year David Bowie’s Blackstar is the bookies’ favourite to be given the nod, with it predicted that the late musician will be posthumously honoured with the award. Radiohead’s A Moon Shaped Pool is also in the running for the prize, with it currently joint second-favourite alongside Savages’ Adore Life.

The likes of Skepta, Bat For Lashes, Kano and Jamie Woon also make the list of nominees, while the seemingly omnipresent The 1975 are also featured. The awards ceremony will take place in London on August 4.
