Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Movie Reportedly in the Works

The Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage play is reportedly set to be adapted into a film, with Warner Bros. looking to capitalize on the huge success of the spin-off story as soon as 2020.

According to a report from New York Daily News, Warner Bros. is hoping that Daniel Radcliffe will return to the role that made him famous, though they could be waiting for quite some time considering that Radcliffe has previously spoken of his desire to distance himself from the boy wizard. A “Hollywood source” listed by the publication allegedly said: “Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds only one man should be Harry. However he has made it clear that his mind is certainly not focused on returning to the role anytime soon — and that could be until he hits 40.”

Though the quote from this anonymous source should be taken with a particularly large pinch of salt, it wouldn’t exactly be surprising if Warner Bros. were looking to release a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie. Considering that the screenplay of the show went on to become the fastest-selling book of the decade in the UK, surpassing Fifty Shades of Grey‘s record and attracting nearly as many first-week sales as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, there would be plenty of money to be made in bringing The Cursed Child to the big screen.

However, it’s unlikely that such a film would make its way into production by 2020 given that Warner Bros. is currently working on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the first installment in a planned trilogy. With the company having their hands tied with this series for the next 5 years or so, don’t except a Cursed Child movie to make its way to cinemas any time soon.
