1996 was one of the best sports years of the decade. Atlanta was hosting the Olympics, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls were in the process of solidifying themselves as the greatest team of all-time and Jerry Maguire was released.
In fact, this week marks the film’s 20 year anniversary.
Whether you’re a sports fan, a Tom Cruise fan, a Cuba Gooding Jr. fan, a fan of football, a film buff … essentially anyone who wasn’t living under a rock for the past two decades saw this movie. And for most of us, we watched it over and over again, falling in love with it more and more each and every time.
But has it really been 20 years? Insane.
There are plethora of iconic scenes. But no question Maguire is most remembered for this.
Several people associated with the movie have been celebrating, or at least acknowledging, the anniversary. Jerry O’Connel even showed us what happened to Frank Cushman in the years following his split from Maguire.
Although unsure how accurate they really are, SundanceTV has some interesting ‘Facts’ you probably didn’t know about the film, most notably that Tom Hanks was the first choice to play Maguire and that Cuba auditioned for his role of Rod Tidwell naked. Wait, what?

A remastered Blu-ray version of the film is due out January 3. It will include special edition features and new bonus material, including a three-part retrospective titled, Jerry Maguire: We Meet Again, which will include never-bef-reseen deleted and extended scenes.
