Jamie Chung Is Blink in Fox’s ‘X-Men’ Universe TV Series

There’s a new X-Men related TV series coming to Fox, and now it’s finally got one of its headlining mutant heroines. Actress Jamie Chung has been cast as Clarice Ferguson, a.k.a. Blink!

Deadline and other outlets have confirmed Chung’s casting in the role, which lists her character’s name as Clarice Fong. But is still Blink, the teleporting mutant heroine who made her debut in Marvel’s X-Men titles during the ’90s. For this series, her character is described as having “a naturally strong exuberance” that is shaken “after a sudden and traumatic upheaval of her life. As she adjusts to the new people and places that are suddenly ‘home’, Clarice is slowly becoming herself again.” Chung previously recurred on Fox’s Gotham as Valerie Vale.

Considering that the plot of this X-Men series revolves around a family whose children develop mutant powers, it’s possible that Blink may be one of the siblings who join the Mutant underground with their human parents. Or possibly, Blink may already be an established member of the underground when the family joins.

The thing to remember about Blink is that there are actually two versions of her running around in the Marvel Universe. The first Blink died in her initial storyline as a lead into the Generation X comic book series. But the character was revived in the alternate timeline known as the Age of Apocalypse, where she quickly turned into a fan favorite. That version of Blink went on to headline her own miniseries, as well as Marvel’s Exiles. And within the last few years, the original Blink was also revived…and quickly forgotten.

Fox’s currently untitled X-Men series was created by Matt Nix, with original X-Men director Bryan Singer attached to executive produce the show and direct the pilot episode. It’s expected to maintain some connections to the X-Men films, but the extent of the shared continuity isn’t known. Considering that there’s already been a Blink in X-Men: Days of Future Past – as played by Bingbing Fan – then changes have already been made.
