Smash Bros. Switch Leak May Have Revealed Nintendo’s Big E3 Announcement

A leak of a new Super Smash Bros. game for the Nintendo Switch may have given away Nintendo’s big E3 2017 announcement, with a series of images seemingly depicting the rumored port of the Wii U fighting game to the company’s latest console.

The images, which were reportedly leaked on the notorious anonymous image sharing site 4chan, appears to show a Smash Bros. game running stages from both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the last entry in the series. This would confirm reports that Nintendo was planning to release a remastered collection of the two games for the Switch, alongside additional content in the vein of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

The game is reportedly set to be announced at E3 2017 in mid-June, though Nintendo has yet to confirm its existence. The images depict Mario and Bowser Jr. fighting on a 3DS stage with updated graphics, along with what appears to be a timed split-screen multiplayer mode for up to 4 players. No new playable characters are featured in the images.

The images, which were posted 4chan’s /v/ board, would not be the first time that the site has been the subject of a Nintendo leak. Back in January, Kotaku reported that a random poster on the site accurately listed many of the announcements that were made in a Nintendo Direct presentation, causing many to question the identity of the anonymous individual. Could this be the same poster, once again springing a leak in Nintendo’s offices?

We’ll likely have to wait until E3 2017 to find out whether or not these images are real, but if so then it seems like Nintendo fans will have to keep their eyes on 4chan in the future for any potential leaks.
