This Reds Player Just Exploded, Becoming Just 17th MLB Player To Ever Do This

Of all the most unlikeliest of things to happen in 2017, go ahead and cross off ‘a guy named Scooter would hit 4 home runs in an MLB game.’

Scooter Gennett went 5-for-5 with 10 RBIs and 4 HOME RUNS Tuesday night in a 13-1 blasting of the St. Louis Cardinals. Scooter becomes just the 17th player in MLB history to knock 4 home runs in one game. Many aren’t just calling it one of the greatest single-game performances in the history of baseball, but also possibly the most unlikeliest.

Before Tuesday night’s insane showing, Gennett had just 39 career home runs in 1,755 plate appearances over the last 5 years.

Gennett’s season career high in homers? Just 14, set last year.

His four-homer night Tuesday more than doubled his season total to 7.

Before Tuesday’s clinic, Gennett hadn’t hit a tater since April 11.

And oh yeah, his name is SCOOTER, meaning he’s a 5-foot-10 utility man who’s about 170 pounds soaking wet. The 27-year-old was even waived by the Brewers at the end of spring training and picked up by the Reds at the beginning of the year.

Yes, even Scooter admits the night was a shock.

“Usually when I hit a home run I consider myself lucky,” he said in a post-game interview.

Enjoy the show:

Scooter, who gave himself the nickname as a kid from his favorite Muppet Baby, also became just the 14th player ever to record 10 RBI in a game.

Baseball, the last remaining pro sport for us short guys named Scooter. Hot Damn!
