Comic-Con 2017 | Freddy Krueger and The Iron Giant Show Up in the ‘Ready Player One’ Trailer

If you ever wanted to see a movie where all your favorite pop culture characters show up and start wailing on each other, apparently Ready Player One is the film for you.

Steven Spielberg’s big budget sci-fi spectacle premiered its first trailer at Comic-Con 2017, showing off a future world in which a virtual reality game is a way of life for young people, and pop culture references are interactive components in the game’s expansive world. Look closely at the trailer and you’ll see Freddy Krueger and The Iron Giant (who apparently plays an important role in the story, as Spielberg told the audience at Comic-Con). We’re pretty sure we saw also the light cycle from TRON and maybe even Duke Nukem himself.

Ready Player One is based on the award-winning novel by Ernie Cline. The film stars Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse), Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel), Ben Mendelsohn (Star Wars: Rogue One), Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies) and Simon Pegg (Star Trek Beyond). The film premieres in theaters on March 30, 2018.
