One of the most anticipated album of 2017 has arrived. Arcade Fire‘s Everything Now drops today. The Canadian Grammy winners celebrated the release of their fifth studio album by live streaming a club show last night at Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn via Apple Music.

So what’s the scoop on Everything Now?

Arcade Fire’s Grammy-winning credo is wrapping up message music in communal sing-along songs with layered indie art-pop grooves that are easily consumed — the equivalent of eating your vegetables from the kitchen of a hip, trendy Michelin-winning chef.

Everything Now is very much an album with something to say, but it was co-produced with Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter, Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, Markus Dravs, and Pulp’s Steve Mackey, so there was definitely a preconceived notion to try something new and the results appear to be good, not great despite the initial excitement that the title track gave us.

Early reviews show Everything Now with a current Metacritic score of 6.9, and devoted outlets like Pitchfork describing it as “pale, joyless” with songs that “don’t transcend their social critique—they succumb to it.” Ouch.

Judge for yourself as Everything Now is available to listen on Spotify (below), Apple Music and other platforms.
