‘Method Actor’ Jared Leto Actually Blinded Himself To Play Bad Guy In ‘Blade Runner 2049’

When notorious method actor Jared Leto and his co-stars were promoting Suicide Squad we all heard the ridiculous things that Leto did in order to stay in character as the Joker — this including sending his co-stars used condoms for some reason. And after that the running gag became that Leto took every moment he could to share just how far he would go for a role. And apparently making yourself blind is how far he will go.

On the set of the new movie Blade Runner 2049, the Oscar winner actually asked that his milky contact lenses impair his vision so he could be blind just like his character, a bad dude named Niander Wallace.

Even director Denis Villeneve was thrown off. Here’s what he told The Wall Street Journal.

“We all heard stories about Jared, how he transforms into the characters. But even this didn’t prepare me for what was to come. He could not see at all. He was walking with an assistant, very slowly. It was like seeing Jesus walking into a temple. Everybody became super silent, and there was a kind of sacred moment. Everyone was in awe. It was so beautiful and powerful—I was moved to tears.”

I don’t know about you, but Leto sounds like quite the headache to work with. Blinding yourself? Come on, dude, you have your Oscar already. Then again, this isn’t the first time Leto has gone overboard as he once abstain from having sex with his then-girlfriend Cameron Diaz for Requiem for a Dream.

Now that’s insane.
