How do you like your music? Loud? Angry? What about meta? Because it doesn’t get any more self-referential than Olivia Rodrigo playing her hit “Drivers License” at the DMV.
The 18-year-old pop-punk singer-songwriter recently teamed up with NPR for a Tiny Desk Concert, and she did so at the Glendale Department of Motor Vehicles in California.
Dressed in a goofy outfit that looked like she raided her grandma’s closet, Rodrigo and her all-female band belted out a four-song set in the soul-deadening space that her team apparently paid $2,383 to rent out after-hours.
This isn’t the first time the government organization has used its spaces as a side-hustle, either. According to the New York Post, “DMV offices in California allow content creators to apply for special permits to film at their locations. However, filming must not interfere with a facility’s day-to-day operations.”
Surely, though, they were tickled pink that a teen idol like Rodrigo picked their venue for the video, which has been viewed a whopping 2.7 million times already.
While Rodrigo’s oeuvre isn’t exactly music to our ears, this concert has to be the coolest thing to ever go down at the DMV – though given how low the bar is there, that isn’t saying much.
