Morbius

Is Sony Playing Ultimate April Fools’ Prank on Us With Morbius Delay to April 1 (And Does This Movie Even Really Exist)?

Unfortunately for moviegoers, Morbius has been delayed yet again. Every now and then, there is a movie that just refuses to be released. New Mutants was the most recent example of this – a film that actually loses hype the more it gets delayed. This isn’t to say that we already knew the film would be terrible in the first place. Because odds are that it will be. But now that Morbius has been delayed yet again, this time to April 1st, it begs the question – Is this movie ever going to come out? Or is the film merely an elaborate April fools joke?

For those who are unaware, Morbius is an upcoming superhero film that serves as a spinoff of Sony’s Venom franchise starring Jared Leto. The character of Dr. Michael Morbius is associated with characters such as Spider-Man and Blade, often toting the line between hero and villain. While Morbius is a great supporting character with a lot of big-screen potential, it’s hard to imagine a world where he is able to sustain a solo movie. Based on the film’s god-awful marketing, that theory seems to be true so far.

The film was originally announced after the successful release of Venom in 2018 as part of Sony’s larger shared Spider-Man universe.  The original release date was set for July 10, 2020, but has moved dates SIX different times including the most recent one. During that time, Venom: Let There Be Carnage was shot and released in less time.

Although the raging Omicron variant is also a factor, some people have pointed out that the most recent delay was a strategic move to give Spider-Man: No Way Home more legs on its record-breaking box office run. Nevertheless, the delay also means that people who are brave enough to go to the movies are going to be forced to sit through the dreadful trailer for Morbius like a scene out of Clockwork Orange. I swear to god if we have to hear the words “bat radar” one more time, we’re gonna lose it.
